State Dismisses Charge - John Guion
John Henry Guion is 73 years old and had never been arrested, much less convicted, of any crimes in his life. On February 12, 2017 his life was turned upside down when an eight (8) year old girl falsely accused him of inappropriate contact. This was reported to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. An investigation commenced along with our client’s nightmare.
On May 18, 2018, John was indicted by a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury for Oral Sexual Battery. He faced a sentence of 25 to 99 years imprisonment without the benefit of suspension or parole. John rejected multiple offers from the District Attorney’s Office to plead to lesser charges. He stood firm in the face of a threat to upgrade the charge. Mr. Guion stood strong in his faith as he had to continuously go to court as his trial was continued repeatedly. However, his faith and endurance were rewarded on March 6, 2023. On that date the District Attorney’s Office dismissed the charge against him.
Cases like John’s should be considered when we all hear/read in the news about our fellow citizens being arrested and/or charged with committing crimes. All of us deserve the benefit of our constitutional presumption of innocence. It was our pleasure to represent Mr. John H. Guion for the last 6 years and support him during this journey to exoneration.
